It is finally June! I can’t believe summer is just around the corner, I just have to make it through my first finals week at Western. This weekend I am hoping the weather clears up a bit so I can go paddle boarding on Lake Whatcom, but if it doesn’t I’ll probably end up at a coffee shop drinking tea and hitting the books.
This week felt like it would never end or get better. Each day I woke up exhausted and unmotivated and today was just the icing on the cake. I was almost late to class, forgot close-toed shoes for lab, and forgot to eat breakfast and lunch. I felt like a complete mess, but I prevailed. I got up, I showed up, and I survived. And despite the terrible start to my day I decided to make the most of what was left. I went thrifting, ate dinner with friends, and cuddled a pupper. And thanks to those simple little actions I ended a rough week on a happy note.
So this weekend, despite the impending doom of midterms, looks like it is going to be a good one. Saturday is Earth day, and here in Bellingham that means that there will be a myriad of events to attend. So many events to choose from, yet I can only be at one place at a time, bummer! After surveying my options I opted to March for Science instead of sitting inside listening to talks. When in doubt opt for action. Climate change is real my friends and I encourage you to get out there and March for Science this weekend! What are you doing to celebrate Earth day this weekend?
This long weekend started out with a dose of sleep deprivation and a day full of new things in Bellingham. After a long drive home after night lab I caught a few hours of sleep before getting up early to head to Bellingham for my new student transfer orientation. But of course when in Bellingham, you must do fun things and eat good food. So we ate at Soy House again, because that place is amazing, and also picked up some vegans donuts. After all that fun I was pretty exhausted, so the rest of the weekend will probably be fairly relaxed. I think working on projects, snuggling my pup, shopping at my favorite health food store, and eating lots of good food is what’s on the agenda. This week has been a busy one for me and when I was finally done today, I didn’t know what to do with myself! I had nowhere I had to be, nowhere I had to drive to, just me and a whole lot of time. I started out this lovely weekend with lunch with a good friend, then proceeded to finish a knitting project. I am hoping to take some time for me tomorrow and so far that looks like going to yoga and maybe a hike. Anyway, I hope you all had a good week and don’t forget that despite the mess you can find yourself in some weeks, to remember that it will all be okay in the end. I woke up this morning to discover that it was -11ºF outside, I had to blow dry my hair for the first time in months for the fear that my hair would freeze off. It feels like winter here will never end, but at least I have a warm bed to curl up in when I don’t have class. It is too cold to go outside this weekend, but I am not really sure what I am going to be up to. I definitely need to knit a hat, otherwise I think my ears might freeze off! I hope you had a good week and your winter is much milder than mine. Here are a few links from around the internet for your weekend…
What are you up to this weekend? I had a busy first week of college and I was so thankful when Friday finally came. I celebrated surviving the first week with an 8mile bike ride on Friday. It is still sunny and fairly warm here in Walla Walla, so it’s good to soak up the warmth and sun while I still can. Saturdays are always days of rest and fun and my Sundays are usually for doing grocery shopping, laundry, and getting ahead on my homework for the week. If I wasn’t on a college student’s budget and I had lots of time, I would totally make this.
Friday Favorites just got a new name, thanks to an eventful Friday yesterday. Yesterday was move in day for me at Walla Walla University. This is a weekend full of new people and new experiences, and a surprising amount of rain. Here are a few links around the internet to look at this weekend…
If you are an avid reader looking for new good books, check out Book Mark. I just discovered it today!
I now lack my parents fully stocked kitchen, but if I was home I would give this fall recipe a try. (And modify a few things to make it dairy free)
Moving to college or any big life change tends to bring along some kind of anxiety, here is a tip and twoapps that I’ve found helpful so far.
An interesting article about riding your bike, I’m not sure if I am going to be using this much in the flat lands of Walla Walla, but it’s still good advice.
A good blog post if you are a fellow freshman starting college this fall.
A really cute store created buy a Youtuber in Utah.
What are you planning to do this weekend? Last weekend I was cooped up in my house with the cold and rainy Washington weather, but this weekend I have escaped to Palm Springs. Over the course of the weekend, I am planning on visiting several places around the valley and then soaking up as much vitamin D as possible. Here are a few links around the internet for your weekend…
Speaking of Palm Springs, here is a beautiful photo diary. Or a guide to the places to sleep, eat and play.
